Each year on June 20, the United Nations and countless civic groups around the world celebrate World Refugee Day. Currently, there are more than 15.5 million refugees around the world. The United Nations established World Refugee Day to honor the courage, strength, and determination of these women, men, and children who are forced to flee their homes under the threat of persecution, conflict, and violence. 

Local First will hold its tenth annual Street Party, presented by Founders Brewing, with stage sponsor Celebration! Cinema, in front of Bistro Bella Vita on Saturday, June 1, from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m. New this year is the 3 p.m. start time, which will extend the event by one hour. Also new this year, Local First will host family-friendly art stations, where children and parents could create art together for free. Local Artist REB Roberts will lead sculpture making, and sidewalk chalk will be widely available. REB Roberts is also the designer of this year's Street Party poster. This year's event will also feature roving performance artists who will entertain the crowd throughout the day.

Baxter Community Center, Family Outreach Center, Grand Rapids African American Health Institute, Grand Rapids Urban League, Hispanic Center of Western Michigan, and United Methodist Community House invite you to attend a press conference to chat and interact with the organizations comprising the Urban Core Collective, a community of practice collaborating on service delivery, enhanced access to services and leadership cultivation. The announcement will focus on the collaboration, outcomes, and equal access to health, education and resources for those residing in Grand Rapids. 

Downtown Holland is currently accepting applications for its popular Downtown Ambassador Program. The program, scheduled to begin in June, seeks to improve the overall customer experience in downtown Holland by ensuring a cleaner, safer, and friendlier environment.

Experience Grand Rapids and the Kent County Lodging Association announced the opening of the sixth annual WAVE Award nominations. This awards program recognizes outstanding service providers in the Grand Rapids and Kent County hospitality industry. Nominations will be accepted from both employers and guests until October 7, 2013. One award will be presented in each category:
