e-merge Hosts Pitch Competition for Budding Entrepreneurs

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

Money and the opportunity to meet with an angel investor group are among the prizes for the entrepreneur winners of the third annual e-merge Elevator Pitch Competition. The registration deadline is Friday, October 18, 2013.

During the pitch competition, slated for Wednesday, November 6, forty entrants will each have two minutes to pitch their ideas, products, services, or business before a panel of judges. In addition to the quality of their presentation, they will be evaluated on how well they got the attention of the judges; clearly defined their product or service, its unique features and benefits, and market; and understood their competition.

The e-merge competition includes two divisions with twenty entrants each: an open division for entrepreneurs from the general public, and a high school/college division. Students may enter the open division or the high school/college division. Entrants can be in the early stages of developing their business concepts or can be more seasoned entrepreneurs who are actively running their businesses.

For the open division, a panel of entrepreneur judges will select the twenty most promising registrations. The twenty high school or college student entrants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The first-place finisher in the open division will win the opportunity to meet with an angel investor group for possible support. The top three finishers in the open division will win prize packages of services to enhance their businesses. The top three student contestants will win $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively.

The November 6 competition will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Baker College of Muskegon auditorium, 1903 Marquette Ave., Muskegon. The general public is invited to attend.
