Finish the Fight Discovery Ball in November 7

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

West Michigan residents are invited to help celebrate the American Cancer Society’s one hundredth birthday on Thursday, November 7, at the Grand Rapids Finish the Fight Discovery Ball, the Society’s new gala affair.

This birthday-themed event will take place at the St. George Banquet and Conference Center, 334 Lagrave Ave SE, and begin with registration at 6 p.m. Local restaurants and caterers will provide delicious cuisine during the strolling dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. Silent and live auctions, dancing, and entertainment make Discovery Ball the best birthday bash in town.

“We know from a century of saving lives that silence won’t finish this fight—only action will,” said Cindy Kovacik, senior specialist, Distinguished Events for the American Cancer Society. “As the American Cancer Society celebrates its one hundredth birthday in 2013, we are taking advantage of this opportunity as the Official Sponsor of Birthdays to be as loud and active as possible in the battle to end cancer. Thanks to the amazing support of West Michigan businesses and individuals, we can make a huge impact on cancer through Discovery Ball, enabling us to continue funding research and provide patient programs and services that support nearly fifty-eight thousand Michiganders who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.”

Tom McGovern, president of Rockford Construction Company, is event chair for this year’s Discovery Ball, which is presented by Meijer and Dematic, and supported by many of the area’s top corporate, medical, and community organizations. Media sponsors include WOOD TV8, Newsradio WOOD 1300, and 106.9 FM, Grand Rapids Business Journal, Grand Rapids Magazine, and StellaFly Social Media. For more information about Discovery Ball and ticket availability for this casual-style event, visit DiscoveryBallGR.com, or call Cindy Kovacik at 616-551-4034 or email her at [email protected].

In addition to serving as the largest source of non-governmental funding for cancer research, the American Cancer Society supports the West Michigan community through a variety of programs and services, including transportation assistance, health insurance navigation, cancer screening information, and no-charge lodging at the Hope Lodge, Peter M. Wege Guest House, for cancer patients traveling to Grand Rapids for treatment.
