Elaine Dalcher, Painter
Dalcher’s new paintings and monotypes continue her interest in the landscape. Beginning her work outdoors within the landscape, she moves the canvas into the studio to continue the work, concentrating on creating a mood referenced by the landscape and remembered, not tied to it. Dalcher received the YWCA 2012 Tribute! Award in the Arts, honoring her work as an artist and educator in the greater Grand Rapids community.

Dégagé Ministries will host its annual year-end benefit, Celebrate Dégagé, on November 22, 2013 at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The event will bring together Dégagé staff and volunteers, along with donors and friends of the ministry. Among the milestones being celebrated is the recent tenth anniversary of the Open Door Women’s Center, an overnight shelter for women in crisis. Some of its undertakings:

The nation’s first-ever community-wide festival of laughter, Gilda’s LaughFest, announced its first round of talent and shows lined up for the festival’s fourth year to be held March 6-16, 2014. The headliners announced include: Lily Tomlin, making a special appearance in partnership with Broadway Grand Rapids; Chris Tucker; and LaughFest veterans, Jim Gaffigan, and Sinbad. This year’s Signature Event will feature Emmy award winning comedian, longtime TV personality and late-night talk show host Jay Leno. Several other acts were also announced for LaughFest, along with a “$50,000 Challenge” by five local companies to raise funds specifically for Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids Children’s cancer, grief, and emotional health programs.

Gilda’s LaughFest officials have launched LaughFest Friends, a new membership program. Members will receive a variety of benefits, including VIP access to the November 12 headlining artists announcement launch party, which will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, 101 Monroe Center, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a members-only party to be scheduled in December.
