Cancer is an obstacle many women will have to encounter in their lives. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), approximately 12 percent of women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
NIH also estimates 60,050 new cases of endometrial cancer and 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed in 2016 alone. It can be difficult to know what resources to turn to, yet education can be a powerful tool.
The more we learn more about our bodies and talk about health concerns openly, the easier it is to make plans to address them. An opportunity to learn more about cancers affecting women and current research to combat them is coming up on November 11, 2016, as part of Van Andel Institute's event A Conversation About Women's Health: Common Cancers Affecting Women, hosted by Carol Van Andel.
The luncheon will feature local scientists and experts who will discuss the latest advancements in breast, ovarian and endometrial cancer research. The event is designed to be an empowering conversation by offering information on how women can become their own personal healthcare advocate.
