Looking the part of a professional and stylish career woman in intense summer heat can be a challenge but it’s important because, “The way we dress really affects how we’re feeling about ourselves,” says Lisa Jabara, co-owner of Hot Mama. “We have a lot in for summer for our professional moms.”
From lighter, gauzy cotton knits to a three quarter sleeve blazer that is professional but not too heavy, there are ways to keep the sizzle exactly where you want it in your wardrobe.
Mixing a blazer with a bright, yellow or coral top underneath paired with a fun turquoise necklace not only jazzes up your tired work wear but possibly the office as well.
Summer is the perfect time to be more playful, so experiment with color and pattern mixing. Summer brights such as tangerine and a chili red keep work wear looking fresh. Ready for a dare? Pair your florals and stripes for a crisp and cool look that sends a strong and confidant message.
“Personally, I really get excited when I see a woman wearing a fun, tired skirt with a pair of heels instead of the basic pencil skirt,” says Jabara, who believes that even the popular maxi skirt can have a professional look.
When it comes to make-up and hair, stand out with bright red lipstick, a white top and khaki skirt for just the right pop of color amongst the basic black (and boring) office backdrop. Wear your hair in fun ways with braids on the side or a style that gets your hair off your neck and ready for the occasional breeze
Looking for items that do double duty? Hot Mama carries a maxi skirt that can also be a tube dress. Wear the skirt with a blazer and wide belt for work and when the day is done switch to the dress and keep the belt for an ensemble that’s got you covered day or night. “It’s the fun item we have that has people saying, ‘oh, I’m buying a dress and I’m buying a skirt!’”
