Easy Fall Accessories

Everyone knows: Adding accessories to an outfit is an immediate game-changer. In a matter of minutes, your mediocre ensemble becomes memorable. Jenna Sharnas, owner of Threads on 8th, is available to help revamp your selection of fall accessories, because it's the little things that matter.

SCARVES: You can't go wrong with a great scarf. Threads on 8th will have some beautiful handmade scarves from an artist in Colorado, featuring blends of cashmere and mohair and cotton in all kinds of color schemes. You'll find plenty of infinity scarves—about the easiest accessory you can own—as well as painted silk pieces. The store is ordering more of the trendy blanket scarves from last season and another layering piece, the poncho.

JEWELRY: Follow the big trend in jewelry by picking up a few leather cuff bracelets in blacks and browns, featuring some metal embellishments. "It's soft leather, so they are very comfortable." You'll want to check out the store's line of lightweight necklaces that pair well with chocolate browns and charcoal grey hues.

TIGHTS: Your top half shouldn't have all of the fun! Try on reversible tights made by Spanx. Receive two pair for the price of one with a black and charcoal grey combo or a black and chocolate brown pairing. "They've got this little bit of tummy control—nothing too constricting."

BELTS: The look will be wider leather belts, with the typical hardware detailing to give it some added interest. It's the perfect way to cinch up that waist area to appear thinner—and belts are great over long sweaters, vests and tunics.

If you're low on funds and can't go overboard with a ton of new accessories, Sharnas suggests going the scarf route. Whether it's one you wear everyday with your winter coat or a patterned scarf for a specific outfit, it's bringing some color near your face—and that's flattering and where you want people to look.

"It sets the tone," Sharnas said. "If you have a great color up by your face, it does a lot for you throughout your day—especially the outdoor scarfs. We are always so bundled up in the cold. Spend your money on what people are constantly seeing you in, such as a scarf or nice statement necklace."

Threads on 8th is located at 21 W. Eighth Street in Holland. We hear they're also stocking some hats, so when you think accessories, think to stop by the store and say "hello." And ask them to direct you to the goods!
