ADAM HUTCHENS

Adam Hutchens’ journey with cancer began during the height of the pandemic. The retail specialty manager was diagnosed with testicular cancer at a time when people were separated and he was forced to face his fears with his community at a distance.

“It was July 2020 when I first noticed something was different about my body, about me mentally,” he said. “I had to face the doctors and countless appointments alone. Even though I had an amazing community of support with my husband, family and friends, going to appointments in a mask, I have never felt so alone in my life. Nothing prepares you for facing cancer alone and in a mask. It’s a moment in life when you find the courage inside yourself to face your own fears and challenges.”

It was during this time Adam used running and movement to help in his physical and mental recovery.

“With my diagnosis, I was extremely fortunate I didn’t have to go through chemo,” he said. “I had my surgery to remove it and that was it. It was truly an awful experience with the best outcome. In the end, I learned ‘I am a Survivor!’”

Because of his experience, Adam chooses to stand with other survivors in support of the American Cancer Society through events such as Taste of Hope. He hopes no one feels alone in their cancer journey.
