Party Planning Made Simple

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

Party planning has always been a hobby for Amy Ruis, but her hobby has grown into a career as owner of Art of the Table. But you don’t have to be a pro, party planning is as easy as one two three.

According to Amy, there are three parts to any table: the food, beverage, and display. She suggests party planners start with the drinks. What kind of wine or beer do your guests enjoy? Will you need to provide a non-alcoholic alternative? Click here for tips on stocking your bar for the event.

Once beverages are covered, move onto food. Amy enjoys recommending the kinds of cheeses, spreads, and dips that pair well with each beverage. Consider if you will provide light appetizers or a more hearty spread. Click here to read about how much cake you’ll need for different sized groups. Finally prepare your table. Will guests be seated for the celebration, or will they mill about your event space? Will you need party favors? If so, find something that links to the theme of the event. Find signature napkins and a table cloth that tie the theme, tone, and colors of the event together.

The number of guests, the time of the day or week, the theme of your event, and the tone you hope to create throughout the celebration will all determine the main elements of your planning process. Weave together all aspects of the party by selecting corresponding drinks, food, and decor. Read more party planning tips on invitations and activities.
