4 Ways to Be Well During the Holidays

Are you ready to be well during the holiday season? Consider these tips from Urban You!

1. Find five minutes each day to meditate.
Meditation has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus, improve quality of sleep, and enhance your emotional health, in addition to many other health benefits. It's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season but taking just five minutes to re-center can make all the difference. Not sure where to start? Download Headspace. You can choose guided meditation exercises based on your needs and lifestyle—and all you need is a reasonably quiet, comfortable place where you won't be interrupted.

2. REST.
While you sleep, your body is hard at work repairing muscles and cells, and releasing hormones that affect your immune system, appetite, mood, and cardiovascular health. A consistent bedtime routine can seriously improve your quality of life! Use the Bedtime App (if you're an iPhone user) to set the number of hours you want to sleep and adjust your bedtime and wake-up time to fit your schedule. Your phone will automatically silence notifications during that time and will play a relaxing gradual alarm to welcome the new day. Rest is something that you work up to! Try to wind down one to two hours before your bedtime with no screens.

3. Be kind and give.
Did you know just one act of kindness can decrease stress, lower blood pressure and release feel-good hormones? Smile at a stranger, hold the door open, pay for the coffee order of the person behind you—small moves make big waves. When holiday shopping, look for businesses participating in Philanthropy Month. 4. Fill your cup.
