Want to cover the hot spots in swimwear trends? From flirty and feminine to sporty and active, Meijer captures summer's many moods.
(1) SPORTY AND ACTIVE. The athleisure trend continues to gain momentum, with styles focusing on fits that intertwine beach, yoga, and stand-up paddle boarding lifestyles. Suits are made of deconstructed silhouettes, giving tops and bottoms a more organic feel with less wire and seams that are more comfortable. Look for tankini styles resembling workout tank tops or bralette bikini tops—similar to a sports bra—featuring more coverage around the bust. Not the lounge-by-the-pool type? These sporty silhouettes cater to the many ways you move.
(2) RUFFLE YOUR FEATHERS. Meijer's swimwear line captivates with plenty of playful fabric and eye-catching details. From Bohemian and Aztec prints to tie-dye patterns, you'll find loads of inspiration. Look for mesh and crochet inserts in bikinis and one-piece swimsuits. "Ruffles and crochet continue to be important inspiration in trend details," said Mariana Keros, a fashion advisor for Meijer, who's a big fan of the metallic trim, sequin, and rhinestone detailing trends. "Metallic always looks great, because when the sun hits those fabrics and details it shines and has a shimmer to it and with a tan by the pool it looks really glamorous." Adventurous? Strappy tops and bottoms are fashionable now and let you bare a wee bit more.
(3) HUE YOU FEELING? You'll be seeing colors of the sun and colors of the sea this season. Those beachy terms translate to sun colors of coral and warm tones such as peaches and soft pinks, whereas sea colors tend toward aquas, blues, and cool shades.
(4) THE GREAT COVER-UP. "Your cover-up is a fashion piece as much as your swimsuit," said Lynn Hempe, Group Vice President of Softlines Merchandising. More attention is paid to what you pair with your suit, and crochet finds its way into cover up options including tanks, tunics, shorts, skirts and pants. "A lot of the cover-ups look like summer dresses," said Keros. Her genius style tip? Incorporate cover-ups into your everyday beach wardrobe. This saves money, as they do double duty and you can pack less when traveling for spring break or weekend getaways. Quickly slip a tunic over a suit when pulling your boat into a waterfront lunch spot: You've got modesty in minutes with crocheted drawstring pants in hot white or sleek black. Keros likes cover-up crochet shorts, a tank top, and a red sandal.
WHY MEIJER? "Our price on swimwear has always been competitive. You can easily buy two suits for what you can pay for one suit. Great value to me isn't just about the price—it's a combination of styling, quality and price that gives you value." —Lynn Hempe
Note: A majority of swimwear hits Meijer stores in February and March, with additional styles floating in throughout the season.
