In 2017, during a House Financial Services Committee meeting, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), responded to the Treasury Secretary with the words:
"I'm reclaiming my time."
Waters felt the secretary was attempting to avoid answering the question she'd posed to him. The phrase resonated with me, because I'm also reclaiming my time! I think that no matter where on the political spectrum you find yourself, we all need to reclaim our time.
To reclaim indicates that something has been lost, taken or given away. As we take a moment to evaluate, we come to realize that time is currency and just like we take time to budget our money, we need to do the same with our time.
One thing we've learned living in this season of COVID-19 is the frailty of time. Life is short. We don't have time to waste. Time with family, time to practice self-care, time to enjoy the moment—they're all worth prioritizing.
