If you have small children, you may already be stressed about the inevitable flux of new toys that will make their way into your home. Making space before they arrive could make things less overwhelming.
Carolyn TenBrink, a Cannonsburg Elementary first-grade teacher and mother of three, shares her favorite tip.
"Give each of your children a bag to fill with the toys they no longer play with. Explain that they will leave the bags under the tree on Christmas Eve and when Santa comes, he will take them and deliver them to the children whose parents can't afford to buy them more gifts." It's a win-win-win solution. "You rid the house of toys not used, children learn an important lesson about giving back—you'll be surprised how excited they get about it—and you will eventually deliver the toys to a deserving charity."
