Bark in the Dark Is Back!

Want to support local animals that need it while having a ton of fun?

Join Humane Society of West Michigan for the 6th annual Bark in the Dark on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Riverside Park. You can even bring your own furry friend with you!

All proceeds from this family- and dog-friendly 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk benefit animals in need at the Humane Society of West Michigan. Participants have the opportunity to raise additional donations to support these animals through an online fundraising page.

"Bark in the Dark is a great event for people in the West Michigan community to get out for a night of family fun while supporting a great cause! It is an opportunity for people to bring their dogs of all breeds, sizes, and shapes to have fun together," said Megan Ellinger, Events Coordinator for the Humane Society of West Michigan.

The event features family fun activities including balloon animals, face painting, a pup-a-razzi photo booth, giveaways and the Independent Bank dog costume contest before the run/walk. Once participants have sweat it out, they can enjoy a post-race celebration filled with music, snacks, and a beer tent featuring local beer, wine and hard cider.

Registration fees include:

  • Entry to the 5K or 1-mile run/walk.
  • A wag bag filled with goodies for your dog.
  • Access to the pre-race activities.
  • Complimentary snacks and nonalcoholic beverages following the race.
  • Participants ages 21+ will also receive a ticket for one alcoholic beverage at the beer tent, featuring local beer, wine and hard cider.

"HSWM is a 100 percent donor-funded organization and we would not be able to help thousands of animals in need each year without the support of our community by giving back and participating in events like Bark in the Dark," said Ellinger.

The event takes place Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Riverside Park. You can learn more and register at Humane Society of West Michigan.
