There's no better way to celebrate spring than to do it right where things grow—at the farm!
Virtue Cider in Fennville has been prepping for longer days and warmer weather, with all its 48 acres in Southwest Michigan has to offer.
- Baby Animals
In the past few weeks, Virtue Cider welcomed more than a dozen baby animals to the world. Several new mothers in the herd of Icelandic sheep bore beautiful new lambs in an array of wool colors. One of the Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs also became a new mom to adorable piglets.
All these animals are part of the heritage breed rehabilitation program. The animals help Virtue Cider maintain its 48 acres while supplying the region with wool, meat and milk. To maintain the safety and comfort of the animals, Virtue Cider limits the number of people who can see the newborns, but private tours are available. - Spring Cleaning ... and Organizing!
Virtue Cider is tidying up its grounds and refreshing the tasting room. It has reworked some of the fire pit areas and added additional counter space and seating indoors. It also has a great program of spring and summer activities and concerts in the works. Stay tuned on social media and the Virtue Cider website for the full program. - Birthday Bash
Virtue Cider is celebrating its anniversary on Friday, April 13. Stop by for the birthday party! - Spring Planting
Virtue Cider is kicking the spring season off with the Plant An Orchard at Virtue Cider event on April 28, and is looking for volunteers to help plant new apple trees in the orchard. The event will coincide with a simultaneous planting at an urban orchard in Chicago.
Once the planting is done, join the celebration with a toast of Virtue's new Rosé cider, available on draft and in 12-ounce cans. Sign up here to volunteer for the planting or stop by that day just to hang out. - Garden Growth
This year, Virtue is also home to a community wildflower garden to help attract area bees that help pollinate the West Michigan region's trees. For $3, you can purchase a plantable seed card and add it to the community wildflower garden. Dedicate your card to someone or just plant it for fun. Come back during the summer and watch your garden grow.
