Learn how to become involved in local government and be inspired to run for office at the Grand Valley State University Women Center's "Ready to Run Michigan" workshop.
The event, taking place April 21 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., aims to increase the number of women running for elected public offices, especially in states–like Michigan–where the ratio of elected officials leans more heavily toward men. Ready to Run, a bipartisan program, will host keynote speaker Shirley Franklin, the first African American woman elected mayor of Atlanta. Also attending will be former Sen. Patty Birkholz, and Shannon Garrett, formerly of the White House Project.
"We need more women in the elected office pipeline so that more women are ready to run for legislative seats when our current representation is termed out," said Garrett.
