The Grand Valley State University's Fall Arts Celebration is back for 2016, featuring distinguished writers, poets, musicians, artists and scholars with events free and open to the public.
"We think there's something or other that will appeal to everybody," said Fred Antczak, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. "The art exhibition, for example, is a one-time joint show between us and our sister institution in Seoul, South Korea. The poets are a stimulating combination of a serious sensibility, and someone who's often hilarious. The storied Ying Quartet will be doing chamber music of Beethoven's before he became a rock star. So there's something for everyone, but you'll find new, international and enjoyably different perspectives."

An Evening of Poetry and Conversation with Oliver de la Paz and Kay Ryan

Enjoy readings by two renowned poets, followed by book signings and reception.
Kay Ryan has penned many collections of poetry including the 2011 Pultizer Prize-winning The Best of It: New and Selected Poems as well as The Niagra River, Say Uncle, Elephant Rocks and Flamingo Watching.
Oliver de la Paz is the author of Names Above Houses, Furious Lullaby, Post Subject: A Fable and Requiem for the Orchard, winner of the Akron Prize.
Distinguished Academic Lecturer: Rebecca Solnit
"Seeing the Invisible: Journeys through the Overlooked, Unheard, Outside and Insurrectionary"

Author Rebecca Solnit will discuss the intersections between art, geography and community during her Fall Arts presentation. Solnit is the author of 15 books including Men Explain Things to Me.
"Rebecca Solnit is known for her insight into social and cultural movements, the brightness and precision of her prose, and her ability to raise serious points with notes (but somehow redeems) our human foibles," said Fred Antczak, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

To conclude the Fall Arts Celebration, Grand Valley State University Arts Chorale will perform alongside Grand Valley State University Symphony Orchestra in George Frideric Handel's time-honored classic, "Messiah."
