At the recent West Michigan Woman Wine & Wig event, attendees learned a lot about our charity partner, Baxter Community Center. One interesting piece of information that was shared in a personal conversation was the fact that the female clients of Baxter's Marketplace,
which distributes food, clothing, and personal care items, were only allotted four tampons per month. Julie Bacon, vice president of business development at Northpointe Bank, and some of her colleagues decided to do something about the shortage of feminine hygiene items.
Bacon hosted a "Wine, Cheese, and Tampons" party at her home, asking attendees to bring a donation of feminine hygiene products. "We'd been looking for a way to reach out to female referral partners we do business with," Bacon said. "We put together gift bags, which included coupons donated by The Cheese Lady. It was great night of networking and fun, along with helping a huge need at Baxter! We collected approximately 3,500 tampons!"
And the idea is catching fire. West Michigan Woman marketing director Jill Caroll said, "Julie's idea carried over to my group of friends. We are doing the same thing when we do our ornament exchange."
So, if you're looking for a theme for your next girls' get-together, look no further! It's a laugh and a good cause, at the same time.
