Ludington is a charming lakeside town that offers something for everyone, making it an ideal destination for a family-friendly summer vacation. From its sandy beaches and outdoor activities to its dining options and events, Ludington has plenty to offer families looking for a memorable getaway.

Beaches are a highlight of any visit to Ludington, and the town has several beautiful options to choose from. Stearns Park Beach is one of the most popular and offers a large expanse of sand, a playground, volleyball courts and concessions, perfect for visiting families looking for convenient amenities. For a quieter experience, families can head to Ludington State Park, which has over seven miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and a smaller beach tucked away along Hamlin Lake, as well. While there, visitors can also hike the park's trails, explore the sand dunes, or rent kayaks or paddleboards to explore the water.

Families looking for outdoor experiences will also enjoy a trip to the Ludington area. The Pere Marquette River is known for its excellent fishing opportunities, and families can book a guided trip with a local outfitter to learn the ropes, or even paddle a section of river by kayak or canoe. If big lake fishing is more of the adventure you are looking for, Ludington's fleet of experienced charter captains are ready to show you the excitement of Lake Michigan fishing. For a more leisurely outdoor experience, Amber Elk Ranch offers families a guided wagon ride on the 130-acre farm for an up-close and personal experience with their elk.

When it comes to dining, Ludington has great options for families visiting the area. Families with young children will appreciate the kid-friendly options at House of Flavors, which is known for its ice cream but also offers a full menu of sandwiches and salads with a fun atmosphere. If dining al fresco is more your family's style, outdoor decks and patios at the local breweries are great options as well as Legacy Plaza, which nearby Keeper's Fish Shack serves up fresh fish and seafood fare.

In addition to its beaches and outdoor activities, Ludington also has several family-friendly events throughout the summer. The annual Freedom Festival is one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in Michigan, featuring a parade and fireworks. Families can also enjoy live music each Thursday and Friday in downtown Ludington. This year, Ludington celebrates its 150th Anniversary and has plenty of celebratory events planned, kicking off with Love Ludington Weekend June 9 - 11th. For a unique experience, families can visit the S.S. Badger, a car ferry that travels across Lake Michigan between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The S.S. Badger offers several themed cruises throughout the summer, including a pirate cruise and a sunset cruise.

Ludington also has several indoor activities for families to enjoy, in case of rainy days or when you are looking to escape the sun for a bit. The Sandcastles Children's Museum offers interactive exhibits for kids to learn and play, including a farm exhibit, a doctor's office and a mock grocery store. The Port of Ludington Maritime Museum also offers families a great opportunity to learn more about maritime history in Ludington and the Great Lakes.

Ludington is a perfect summer vacation spot for families looking for a mix of outdoor activities, beaches, dining and events. With its sandy beaches, outdoor activities and beautiful natural scenery, Ludington is an ideal place to explore the great outdoors. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, Ludington has something to offer everyone in the family.
