The Carve is All-New at the Holland Farmers Market

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

The Holland Farmers Market is excited to announce exciting changes coming to The Carve on Saturday, October 12, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. While previously a collegiate fruit and vegetable sculpting competition, this year’s event will feature demonstrations by the nation’s best professional pumpkin carvers, an amateur pumpkin carving competition, and hands-on activities for children. The changes were made with the community in mind, to provide a fun and interactive fall event for the entire family. The Carve is generously sponsored by Alpen Rose Restaurant and Café, located in downtown Holland.

Six of the nation’s most talented pumpkin-carving professionals, including Titus Arensberg, Greg Butauski, Brian “Tator” Edwards, Stephan Koch, Dean Murray, and T. Gus “Squashcarver” Smithhisler will be on hand at The Carve, demonstrating their skills throughout the day. The professional carvers will compete in speed-carving contests at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m., during which each carver will be challenged to complete an entire pumpkin carving in just fifteen minutes. In addition, event attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite professionally carved pumpkin sculpture from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. You won’t believe your eyes when you see these pumpkins!

The Holland Farmers Market is also excited to announce plans for an Amateur Pumpkin Carving Contest, as part of The Carve. Members of the community ages eighteen and older are welcome to enter their pre-carved jack-o'-lanterns into a People’s Choice Competition, for a chance at winning at $100 cash prize. Advance registration and a $10 entry fee are required. Entry forms with contest rules and regulations are available online at www.thecarve.org or by contacting organizers at [email protected] or 616-796-1210.

There will be a fun array of free activities for kids from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., including face painting, a candy-in-a-haystack hunt, beanbag toss, coloring station, and candy corn guessing game. Pumpkin painting will be available, for just $1.00. Any children who bring their painted pumpkin into the Alpen Rose Café for their display receive a complimentary cookie!
