Pine Rest Opens Second Thrift Store this October

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

Pine Rest will open its second thrift store called, the Pine Rest Thrift Store. It will be located at 2741 28th Street S.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was the former Michaels location east of Breton Avenue.

This building has twenty thousdan-square-feet of retail space, compared to Rustic Market’s current six thousand square feet. With the additional space, this location will be able to accept more furniture donations. Beginning in September, donations of all kinds will start being accepted, and the shop will open for business in October 2013.

“We are very excited for this expansion and to continue supporting Pine Rest patients and clients with our proceeds,” says Carrie VanDenBrink, Rustic Market’s store manager.

Since opening in 1971, Pine Rest’s Rustic Market has generated more than $3 million for the Pine Rest Patient Assistance Fund (PAF). This fund is used by Pine Rest programs and services to support patients who may not have health insurance or other funds to cover their mental health services. The addition of the Pine Rest Thrift Store will allow more funds to be raised.

Nate Scherpenisse, CBRE Grand Rapids, negotiated the lease of the building, working closely with Rustic Market Store Manager Carrie VanDenBrink.

“I want to be sure people understand that the current Rustic Market location will remain open. We simply want to expand our services to a new area of Grand Rapids and increase our donations to the PAF,” says VanDenBrink.

The new Pine Rest Thrift Store will need between 150-200 volunteers. For information on volunteering, contact Carrie VanDenBrink by phone at 616-455-2522.
