After nearly thirty years of providing cosmetic and plastic surgery to patients in downtown Grand Rapids offices, the Centre for Plastic Surgery announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art facility in Southeast Grand Rapids. The build-out of the Centre’s new 11,500-square-foot surgical center at the Heritage Pointe office building on East Paris recently started, and the move-in is anticipated for June 2013.
First Companies, which owns and manages the building at 2060 East Paris SE, is facilitating the build-out. Cox Medendorp Olson is the architect.
The Centre, which has been operating out of its Michigan Street location for twenty-five years, will celebrate its thirtieth year of service in 2013, so the move is a rejuvenation of sorts for the growing practice.
“We have seen a steady increase in new patients in recent years, and we’ve also acquired leading-edge technologies, so we felt the time was right to enhance our offerings” said Benjamin Rechner, MD, partner at the Centre. “We have always been committed to providing exceptional patient care, but this investment will allow Centre for Plastic Surgery to offer an even more enhanced patient experience.”
“Our commitment to the patient experience has always set us apart from other practices,” said Carol Fewless, the Centre’s practice administrator. “The patient-centered design of our new facility will take that legacy to new levels for our patients.”
And patients of the Centre won’t even need to be at the Centre to experience the technology enhancements , thanks to the debut of the practice’s TouchMD portal.
“TouchMD is a new touch-screen technology that has been implemented for patient consults,” Fewless said. “The patient and physician will create notes together during the consult, but then the patient can also log into their account from home and view drawings, notes, and other information that was talked about during their consult. It is a very innovative approach to patient consultations.”
The move in 2013 will mark the first time the practice will be based outside of downtown Grand Rapids, another indicator that the approach to cosmetic surgery has changed.
“Today, our patients look to receive our services in a more aesthetically-pleasing, private, and comfortable environment. Our new expanded location will allow us to provide an experience more suitable to our team’s expectations, as well as those we serve,” said Centre for Plastic Surgery Partner Douglas Leppink, MD.
“The Centre for Plastic Surgery is one of only a few cosmetic surgery providers in the region to offer a full-service surgery center, so all of our cosmetic surgeries are done in our office, not the hospitals,” said Centre Senior Partner Scott Brundage, MD. “Our current location’s proximity to hospitals isn’t as important as it used to be.”
Centre leaders say the new location will be a better reflection of who they are and how they provide services. Not only will the floor plan be more patient-centered, it will also provide more treatment rooms, recovery rooms, office space, and increased privacy, due to a private entrance and exit for patients, something practice leaders wanted to offer to patients.
All services currently offered at the Michigan Street facility will be offered at the Cascade location. The Centre’s focus on skin care services will also be enhanced. “The increased desire for nonsurgical solutions has allowed us to expand this area of the business over the years,” Fewless said. As the Centre continues to add new state-of-the-art equipment and services to the skin care and injectable side of the business, they have found the need to increase space in this area, as well.
As a result of the move, the twenty-five-staff, three-physician practice will more than likely add staff, both in the administrative and clinical areas.
