The Children’s Advocacy Center of Ottawa County will host its fourth annual Advocates in Action Ladies Luncheon on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Grand Haven Golf Club, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
We are excited to bring former Miss America Marilyn Van Derbur as our keynote speaker. Marilyn is author of Miss America by Day, an inspirational resource for healing from childhood sexual abuse. In this book, Marilyn tells her story of how she was sexually violated by her prominent millionaire father from ages five to eighteen. She was fifty-three years old before she was able to speak the words in public: “I am an incest survivor.” She has since opened the door for tens of thousands of sexual abuse survivors to also speak the words, many for the first time, within their own families and communities. Marilyn’s passion is educating society about the long-term impact of sexual assault so that people will better understand why resources need to be made available for prevention and intervention. Marilyn has been named Outstanding Woman Speaker in America, and we are thrilled to have her share her story at our luncheon this year.
If you are interested in attending the luncheon or have any questions about the Children’s Advocacy Center of Ottawa County, please contact Kim Meulenbelt at 616-393-6123 or by e-mail at [email protected]. The cost of the luncheon is $40 per ticket. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
