Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

New York Times best-selling author Luis Carlos Montalván and his best friend, Tuesday, will headline the Golden Gala, an event on Friday, April 26, that benefits Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance and Operation Injured Soldiers.

Montalván is a former U.S. Army captain who wrote Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him, his memoir about his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other wounds, and Tuesday, his service dog who saved and has helped him recover. Captain Montalván served seventeen years in the U.S. Army, including two combat tours, before departing the military, wounded. He is highly decorated, and his awards include two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, and the Combat Action Badge.

Tuesday also had struggles and challenges, prior to being partnered with Luis. The book is really the story of how two wounded warriors, both who had given so much and suffered the consequences, found salvation in each other.

“We’re excited to help bring Capt. Montalván and Tuesday to West Michigan,” Golden Gala Co-Chair Lynda Stein said. “He’s a wonderful speaker with a powerful storya perfect tie-in with the two organizations that will benefit from the event.”

A major motion picture based on Until Tuesday and the independent documentary Buried Above Ground, co-featuring Capt. Montalván, will be released in 2013.

“We are thrilled that Wishbone was chosen as one of the organizations to benefit from the Golden Gala,” said Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance Director Susan Smith. “We are so grateful to longtime Wishbone supporters and volunteers Lynda Stein and Angel Vogel, who are organizing this wonderful event.”

The Golden Gala featuring Capt. Montalván and Tuesday is at the Laketown Golf and Conference Center in Saugatuck. The April 26 event starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer, a book signing and a silent auction, and, of course, the keynote presentation.

Tickets to the event are available now at http://goldengala.eventbrite.com. Or, you may contact Angel Vogel by phone at (847) 922-2240 for tickets.
