The Press Club of Grand Rapids will honor the 2012 ATHENA Award Recipient Carole Valade, Gemini Publications Editor, Associate Publisher and Senior Manager September 26, 4:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. at the Press Club of Grand Rapids.
A longtime advocate and leader for women business owners, Valade was one of the first women in the U.S. to be named editor of a regional business newspaper when she joined Gemini Publications twenty-five years ago.
Currently she is responsible for editorial policy, planning and development of all seven Gemini publications and their staf including Grand Rapids Magazine, Grand Rapids Family Magazine, Grand Rapids Business Journal, www.GRBJ.com, and Business Journal publications West Michigan Commercial Quarterly, Legal Quarterly, and Health Quarterly. She not only writes columns and editorials for each publication, she uses her role as editor to profile and highlight women business owners and all they do.
Nine prominent community and business leaders were nominated for the award this year along with the ATHENA Young Professional Award finalists.
The Press Club of Grand Rapids is open to the news media and University Club members and thier guests. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and happy hour drink specials. Tickets for bar purchases are available to non-members for those who are interested.

The ATHENA Award is a program of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and honors an individual in the Grand Rapids area who demonstrates leadership in their professional field, is a mentor for women, and contributes time and talent to the community.
