Mother’s Day is approaching, which is cause for planning some quality time with the moms and mother figures in your life. If you’re hoping to do something beyond the expected this year, take a look at some of the fun ideas we’ve rounded up for outings and activities, whether you’re getting together for Mother’s Day weekend or beyond.

Remember: These are just a few ideas to get you started. Don’t be afraid to think beyond the box and do something creative!

SHOP ESTATE SALES: Whether you check out websites like estatesales.net or Facebook for the sales in your area or simply choose to go for a nice drive with an iced coffee to hopefully stumble upon one, estate sales are a fun way to second-hand shop. You never know what hidden gems you’ll uncover!

TAKE A POTTERY OR CRAFT CLASS: Spots like Pottery Lane and others offer workshops and classes that are perfect for unleashing your creativity and perhaps trying something new under the guidance of experts. You could even gather a group of friends and moms to do a private party.

GET SOME TEA: Whether it’s going for a walk in the fresh spring air while sipping on a Violet Green Tea Lemonade from Sparrows Coffee or perusing the many loose-leaf tea and blends available at Global Infusion, there’s never a bad time for tea. And enjoying with mom makes it even better.

SIP ON SOME WINE IN THE SUNSHINE: Savor some Michigan flavors with wine tastings at local spots! St. Julian Winery and Distillery in Rockford is ideal for enjoying some pizza (Flo’s Wood Fired, which is attached) while you sip your tasting portions on their patio. What could be better? No reservation is needed for a tasting, unless you’ve got a group of eight or more (then it’s wise to call ahead).

SLIP INTO RELAXATION WITH A SPA DAY: Of course, there’s nothing like a relaxing “Mom and Me” spa day. Consider some infrared sauna time at Wanderlux Beauty + Wellness, a Head-to-Toe Relaxation Package at Woodhouse Day Spa, or a seasonal mani-pedi at Design 1 Salon Spa. Just remember to book sooner than later, as time slots fill up fast.

CURATE A CUSTOM SCENT: Scent is closely tied to memory, so why not create a scent to remember the day together? Venture to Wax Poetic Candle Bar to choose your preferred mixture of scents and create your own custom candle, or stop in at Aroma Labs to choose and combine fragrance notes at their blending station to create your custom scent formula for a perfume.

VOLUNTEER TOGETHER: Pay it forward by giving back to your community! Seek out volunteer opportunities at local organizations like Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, Feeding America West Michigan, AYA Youth Collective, Treetops Collective, Humane Society of West Michigan, and more. You could even become an Adopt-a-Beach team leader and host your very own beach cleanup through the Alliance for the Great Lakes!
