4 Ways to Celebrate All Moms

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

While we think moms deserve to be celebrated all year round, Mother's Day is an ideal opportunity to do something truly memorable to show you care. Whether you want to celebrate your mom, grandma or other special maternal figures in your life, here are a few ideas to make all moms feel extra special and loved this Mother's Day.

Pamper Mom

Treat mom to a relaxing spa day at home with a DIY bath scrub that's simple to make and luxurious to enjoy. Combine 100% dead sea salt, half a cup of baking soda, and 10-15 drops of her favorite essential oil. Package it in a mason jar or pretty container with a ribbon.

If you're not into DIY, simply put together a gift basket with locally made wellness products from Cindy's Suds or KPS Essentials. Even easier, simply get a gift card to a local spa and a bright spring bouquet of flowers!

Brunch Celebration

Plan a special Mother's Day brunch at a restaurant or at home, sourcing local food and drinks. Charcuterie boards are all the rage and you can make yours extra special with some of her favorite treats.

Great additions to your Mother's Day brunch: Treats from Cindy's Donuts or Monica's Cookies, craft beverages like Vander Mill's Rose Cider, or Ferris Coffee's canned nitro cold brew. Local hot spots like Aperitivo or Martha's Vineyard have high quality meats, cheeses and other items for a custom charcuterie board.

Or plan your morning brunch at a West Michigan weekend brunch spot, like Linear Restaurant, for mimosas and fresh, high quality ingredients to start the day.

Blooming Gifts

Indoor plants or floral arrangements are a perfect Mother's Day gift. Look for easy maintenance options for busy moms or for the green thumb mom, something she can plant in her garden.

Houseplants like increasingly popular Berkin Philodendron make great planted gifts and have beautiful variegation on their leaves. For a very low maintenance option, choose Jade—a beautiful and easy houseplant for someone new to plant care.

Herbs are lovely plantable gifts for a mom who loves to garden. Spring is the best time of year to plant an herb garden, since they'll be ready in time for mom to use in all of her summer recipes.

You could also give a gift that keeps on giving. Gift a year of plants with Eastern Floral's plant subscription, and mom will have a reusable planter she can bring in for a new blooming plant each month.

New & Expecting Moms

Mother's Day is an especially big occasion for new moms. A great way to commemorate someone's first Mother's Day is with DIY handprint crafts, which can become a tradition as baby gets older.

If you're less creatively inclined, West Michigan is full of talented photographers that do "Mommy & Me" and maternity photoshoots. This is a lovely way to commemorate someone's first Mother's Day and save those memories for years to come.

Another fantastic option for new or expecting moms is Snapdragon Boutique, a local business that carries adorable baby items. Also, head to Books & Mortar in Eastown for an independently curated selection of books, including children's books. You could also go with a simple gift that encourages mom and baby quality time, like a Jellycat gift set that comes with a soft plush for snuggling and a book to go with it.

If the special moms in your life aren't local, put together a special package or card in the mail (at least one week early, if you want it to arrive for the special occasion). Some West Michigan shops will even curate and ship a package for you, giving you the chance to celebrate mom while supporting local businesses at the same time.
