Calling all artistic women!
To celebrate Michigan Women Forward's new brand and merger with the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame—and the new brand HERstory—a new medallion will be created to commemorate those inducted into this prestigious organization.
Women artists across the state are invited to submit design concepts for consideration, with the chosen design featured in a display at the Museum in Okemos.
If you've ever wanted to be part of HERstory, now is your chance. Established in 1983, the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame honors the history and celebrates the accomplishments of women past and present through a public nomination process and induction ceremony each October. The Life Achievement Award medallion given to all honorees since 1983 was created by Alixandra Summitt of Okemos.
The design consists of a grouping of three important figures in Michigan history (left to right): Anna Howard Shaw, a leader in the national women's suffrage movement; Sojourner Truth, a former slave who became an outspoken crusader for human rights; and Anna Clemenc, the wife of a Croatian miner who helped lead the historic 1913 copper strike in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Together, these women represent the three principal themes of the early women's movement: the striving for political, social and economic justice.
Now, in its 35th year, MWF wishes to honor the past and propel the future of the Hall of Fame with a new Life Achievement medallion that reflects the vision of the organization where women are recognized leaders who thrive, contribute and uplift the state's future.
Open to all Michigan women artists, this contest will determine the new design for the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame Life Achievement medallion, beginning with the upcoming 2018 Michigan Women Hall of Fame Inductees. The winning designer will also be invited to attend the Hall of Fame Dinner to reveal the design.
But act quickly! The submission window opened July 5 and closes August 31, 2018. Final determination will be made soon after submission period closes. Entries must be submitted in PDF format with a short paragraph explaining the design and why it should be chosen as the symbol of lifetime achievement. Submissions must be sent to [email protected], with subject line: Medallion Contest Entry.
