GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., August 22, 2018—“There are no two ways about it: The wig is truly back in fashion,” declared Vogue’s Beauty Editor in the April 2018 issue. But at Wine & Wig, the premier party of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in West Michigan, wigs have always been in style.
The 6th Annual Wine & Wig event, taking place on October 13 at 6:30 p.m., is a perennial favorite that combines a fun-filled night of fundraising with fanciful wigs, all for a serious cause—the fight against breast cancer.
To date, the event has raised $132,000, with last year’s event raising $46,200 for charity partners Komen Michigan, the American Cancer Society, Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids and the Van Andel Institute. Wine & Wig is the only event to bring these four powerhouse charities together—making it the perfect opportunity to draw attention to all the local breast cancer organizations at one time, in one place.
“The wigs get better and better every year. Just when we think we’ve seen it all, someone surprises us,” says West Michigan Woman President and Publisher, Kasie Smith. “As much as we look forward to the wigs, the most important element of the evening is raising money for the fight against a disease that we know will impact 1 in 8 of our readers.”
To accommodate the consistently growing guest list, Wine & Wig will be held at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, a new location for the annual event. Guests can look forward to enjoying live music from members of the band Brenna, henna applications by Happy Henna, a diamond champagne raffle, a photo booth and premium vintage wine tastings. The main fundraising element of the evening is the live auction where attendees compete for unique, “can’t-buy” experiences.
