Are you ready to get wiggy?

Are you ready to get wiggy with it?
2020 is the 8th Annual Wine & Wig. The event is a perennial favorite that combines a light-hearted, fun-filled night of camaraderie with fundraising for a serious cause. Attendees enjoy food, wine and auctions all while wearing wigs as a sign of solidarity with women coping with breast cancer or a cancer treatment that causes hair loss.

Four local cancer charities and West Michigan Woman Magazine have joined forces to find a cure for breast cancer and support local women with research, diagnostic, treatment and emotional support.

Vanessa Jebb-Swanson

This year marks 14 years of cancer survivorship for Vanessa Jebb-Swanson.

It’s a significant number, as she was first diagnosed with PNET, a part of the Ewing Sarcoma family, at age 14. After undergoing a year of various types of chemotherapy, she underwent a 14-hour surgery at the age of 14 to remove her tumor.

“Today, I am completely healthy and cancer memories continue to fade into the background—I am so thankful for that” she said. “And yet, I also strive to remember those experiences and allow them to help me cherish each day and live with intention, joy, and gratitude.”

A Commercial Portfolio Manager with Huntington Bank, Vanessa lives with her husband and two cats in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids, in a duplex they share with her brother and sister-in-law. She loves their neighborhood and spends time cooking new recipes and trying new restaurants.

As a cancer survivor, Vanessa is grateful for the work of the American Cancer Society, specifically the funding of cancer research.

“Cancer research is so important and I am so happy to support the work that ACS is doing,” she said.
