Chamber Music and Jazz at St. Cecilia Music Center

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

November 6, 2014, begins the third year of an exciting partnership between St. Cecilia Music Center and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Lincoln Center is one of America's most important cultural institutions. David Finckel and Wu Han, the artistic directors of Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society, were named "Musicians of the Year" by Musical America in 2012. Finckel and Wu Han became the artistic directors of St. Cecilia's chamber music series in 2012. They have been bringing Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Society Center to Grand Rapids for a series called NYC2GR.

These concerts feature the best chamber musicians in the world in dynamic and beautifully performed programs that can be heard in St. Cecilia's Royce Auditorium and at Lincoln Center in New York City. This is a unique partnership and a wonderful testament to St. Cecilia Music Center's acoustically superb Royce Auditorium, and to Grand Rapids as a cultural destination for artists from around the world.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center series begins November 6, 2014, with international chamber musicians Gloria Chien, piano; Kristin Lee, violin; Sean Lee, violin; Richard O'Neill, viola; and Mihai Marica, cello; performing Mozart's Trio in E major for Piano, Violin, and Cello, K. 542 (1788); Beethoven's Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano, Op. 47, "Kreutzer" (1802-03); and Korngold's Quintet in E major for Piano, Two Violins, Viola, and Cello, Op. 15 (1921-22). Tickets are $35-$40.

The jazz series begins on November 20, 2014, with the Joshua Redman Trio. Saxophonist Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. Joshua Redman has been nominated for two Grammys, and has garnered top honors in critics' and readers' polls of DownBeat, Jazz Times, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone. In addition to his own projects, Redman has recorded and performed with musicians such as Dave Brubeck, The Dave Matthews Band, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Yo Yo Ma, Branford Marsalis, The Rolling Stones, and Stevie Wonder. Redman will be joined by Reuben Rogers and Gregory Hutchinson at the November 20 event. Tickets are $40 – $45.
