On Saturday, April 29, hundreds of people will join together at the third annual Purple Community 5K, powered by Consumers Credit Union.
This 5K is more than just a race—it’s a way to support research happening at Van Andel Institute (VAI) and fight back against diseases like cancer and Parkinson’s.
Did you know?
• 1 out of 3 people will get cancer in their lifetime.
• New cancer cases will rise to 22 million in the next two decades.
• 7 to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease.
• The number of people with Parkinson’s is expected to double by 2030.
Purple Community is striving to change these statistics. One way to work toward this goal is to support the amazing work of Van Andel Institute.
But we can’t do it alone—we need you to help us.
Whether you are someone living with a disease like cancer or Parkinson’s, have someone in your life who is, or if you just care about the mission of VAI, we would love to see you at the starting line!
“This event belongs to our community. It can be a very hopeless feeling—being diagnosed with or having a loved one diagnosed with a disease like cancer or Parkinson’s. Purple Community is here to give hope back to patients and their loved ones, and provide an opportunity to fight these life-altering diseases. Raising funds through our Purple Community 5K is one way people can do that,” said Ashley Owen, senior event coordinator, Purple Community.
100% of proceeds and donations from the Purple Community 5K directly fund local research at VAI.
You can join our efforts by registering for the race, volunteering or becoming a sponsor. Learn more at purplecommunity.vai.org.
