Labor Day Bashes

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

A day off is a reason to celebrate! Backyard barbeques are classic. But if you're looking for new ways to enjoy the last few lazy days of summer with family and friends while staying close to home, consider these party ideas.

Flick and Float

Pop some popcorn, inflate some inner tubes and soak up the last of summer as you watch a movie from the comfort of your pool. Set up an entertainment center outside to screen your favorite film—all you need is a projector, a screen and some speakers. You can rent equipment or purchase your own.

Whiteout Party

Not supposed to wear white after Labor Day? Whether you play by the rules or not, a whiteout party is a great way to poke some fun at them. Keep it classy with dresses and dress shirts, white wine and hors d'oeuvres; you might want to stay away from the BBQ for this one. Or tell your guests to come in simple white T-shirts—then fill some water balloons with paint or food coloring ans let the games begin!

Backyard Camping Bash

You don't have to leave home—or even have all of the right equipment—to have a great time camping with friends and family. Set up camp in your backyard, start a fire and play some games. If you don't have a tent of your own, your backyard is a great place to test one you built yourself. (You can always go inside if it rains.) Don't have a fire pit? No problem. For s'mores and other camping delicacies, you can keep a fire going in a terracotta flowerpot.
