Late Winter/Early Spring Offerings at UICA:

Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) features gallery exhibitions of work from regional, national, and international artists throughout the year. UICA also hosts a range of dynamic events including concerts, performance art, artist receptions, gallery talks, and other programs that nurture our creative community. UICA's 195-seat film theater shows independent cinema, foreign films, and documentaries six days a week.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Portraits by James LaCroix
February 13 – March 15

Each year, UICA awards an artist from the Festival of the Arts Regional Arts Exhibition competition a solo exhibition. This year's featured artist is photographer James Lacroix, a recent graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design. Lacroix has exhibited at the 100/50/01 VSCO show, and received recognition as "Best Mobile Photographer" and "Best of College Photo." Click here for more information.

Open Projector Night
February 18, 8 p.m.

The Open Projector series exists to establish a venue for local film in Grand Rapids. By presenting entertaining events with diverse films, enthusiasm builds for West Michigan filmmaking, and the community is challenged to continually raise the bar for content and production by providing a collegially competitive environment. Bring Your Own Beamer 
March 6, 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Bring Your Own Beamer is an open-source, one-night exhibition series created by Rafaël Rozendaal. BYOB Grand Rapids allows artists to experiment with the medium of projection and react live to each other's work. Click here for more details, including how to submit a proposal.

Power Objects: The Future Has A Primitive Heart.
March 14 – May 15 (Opening Reception on March 14, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.)

UICA will present the contemporary art collection of Joshua Rogers and Lauren Weisenbacher, which features artists Elijah Burgher, Mariano Chavez, Tony Fitzpatrick, Jason Lazarus, and more. Click here for more information.
