EPIC Awards Honor Women-Owned Businesses

Engage with the West Michigan Woman Community!

On June 1, 2015, the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce will recognize the Woman-Owned Business of the Year at the EPIC Awards at Frederik Meijer Garden & Sculpture Park.

This year's nominees include:

  • Eastown Veterinary Clinic is owned by Dr. Lynn Happel, who graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Happel practiced small animal medicine in a three-doctor practice in Muskegon for two years and in an eight-doctor practice in Grand Rapids for six years before opening Eastown Veterinary Clinic on June 1, 2011. She currently employs twelve staff, including one DVM, four veterinary technicians, a groomer, a trainer, and support staff.
  • OnSite Wellness, LLC is owned by Mary Kline and Amy Ritsema, who work with management teams to tailor wellness programs to achieve company wellness goals and drive participation. Their programs include preventative screenings, nutrition, tobacco cessation, stress management, and many other topics, which help to increase employee quality of life and create a healthy work environment.
  • Serendipity Media, LLC is owned by Kasie Smith, who began her business in August 2002 with one magazine, a staff of six, and a tiny office. Since then, the company has grown to six publications (including West Michigan Woman), eight newsletters, and six websites, and doubled its staff. Serendipity Media also sponsors and organizes social events throughout the year, including October's Wine & Wig gala, which will benefit Susan G. Komen Michigan, the American Cancer Society, and Gilda's Club Grand Rapids.

Good luck to all nominees—and congratulations on your accomplishments!
